Lily Washes Her Hands
Lily is hungry.
She goes to the table.
"Time to eat!" says Mama.
First, Lily washes her hands.
She uses warm water and soap.
Bubbles make her giggle.
Mama smiles at Lily.
"Clean hands are happy hands," she says.
Lily rubs them together.
The bubbles pop away.
Lily counts to ten.
One. Two. Three.
Mama helps dry her hands.
A soft towel is nice.
It tickles a little.
Lily sits in her chair.
Her plate has yummy food.
"Thank you for washing, Lily," says Mama.
She eats her meal slowly.
Chewing each bite carefully.
Crunchy carrots are her favorite.
The kitchen feels warm and cozy.
Sunlight shines through the window.
Birds sing outside.
Lily yawns a little.
Her eyes feel heavy now.
Mama hugs her tight.
"Goodnight, Lily," Mama whispers.
She carries her upstairs.
Time to sleep soon.
Lily snuggles in her bed.
The covers are soft and fluffy.
Her hands feel clean still.
Lily looks at her plate.
"Carrots and peas," she says.
Mama nods. "Yes! And rice too."
Lily picks up a pea.
It rolls away. She giggles.
Mama laughs with her.
The pea lands on the table.
Lily reaches for it.
Mama hands her a spoon.
"Use this, sweetie," she says.
Lily tries the spoon.
Clink! It hits the plate.
She giggles again.
Mama smiles. "Good try!"
Lily scoops up peas.
Some fall off the spoon.
They roll all around.
Lily laughs loudly.
The sound is happy.
Mama wipes her chin.
A little rice was there.
"Thank you, Mama," Lily says.
She eats one pea now.
Crunch! It tastes good.
Lily smiles big.
Mama hums a tune.
It is soft and sweet.
Lily sways in her chair.
The song makes her sleepy.
One more bite of rice.
Then she yawns again.
Mama stops the singing.
"Time for bed, little one," she says.
She lifts Lily gently.
Upstairs they go slow.
The hallway is quiet.
Moonlight shines inside.
Lily's room is cozy.
Her stuffed bunny waits.
Mama tucks her in tight.
The blanket feels just right.
Lily hugs her bunny close.
It smells like home sweet.
She closes her eyes soft.
Dreaming of peas and song.
Lily hugs her bunny tight. "Stay with me," she whispers. The bunny's ears flop. It always listens well.
Mama smooths Lily's hair. "Tell Bunny about your day." Lily nods sleepy. "We washed hands, Mama. Soapy bubbles!" She giggles at the thought. They were big and round.
The hallway hums quiet now. A night bird sings soft outside. Lily points to the window. "Bird says goodnight too." Mama smiles. "Yes it does."
Lily hugs her bunny again. His fur is white like moonbeams. She kisses his ear. "Goodnight, Bunny," she says. The words feel cozy.
Mama turns off the lamp slow. Dark fills the room gentle. Lily's eyes grow heavy. The bird sings one more time. Then silence wraps them tight.
