Sofia's Brave Night

Sofia snuggled under her blanket.
Her room was dark and quiet.
She felt little butterflies in her tummy.
"Mama," she called softly.

Mama came to Sofia's side.
Mama sat on the floor next to the bed.
She smiled at Sofia with big, warm eyes.
"What's wrong, sweetie?"

"I feel scared," said Sofia.
Her voice was small but brave.
Mama took her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze.
"Tell me about it."

"The dark is big," whispered Sofia.
"But you are little," said Mama.
She pointed to the nightlight on the dresser.
"It's your friend. It stays with you all night long."

Sofia looked at the little glowing star.
It made soft, pretty colors on her wall.
Mama sang a quiet lullaby about brave hearts.
Her voice was like warm honey.

"Can I have a story?" asked Sofia.
Mama smiled and began to tell one.
It was about a bunny who found courage.
The bunny's name was Lulu.

Lulu hopped through the woods at night.
She met a friendly owl named Oliver.
Oliver said, "I am here for you."
His feathers were soft as clouds.

Sofia closed her eyes halfway.
Her breathing slowed like a sleepy kitty.
Mama kissed her forehead and whispered,
"Goodnight, brave girl. I love you."

The nightlight twinkled its happy colors.
Sofia's butterflies flew away to dreamland.
She felt safe and warm in her cozy bed.
Her eyelids grew heavy as feathers.

Mama's voice was soft and smooth.
"It's about a bunny," Mama said.
Lulu was small like Sofia.
The woods were dark but not scary.

Oliver the owl had big round eyes.
He fluttered down to Lulu's level.
"Tell me what you see," Oliver asked kindly.
Lulu looked around carefully.

There were fireflies dancing in the trees.
Their little lights twinkled like tiny stars.
A gentle breeze rustled the leaves.
It sounded like a soft lullaby.

Oliver said, "See? The dark is full of friends."
He spread his wings wide and wide.
They made a cozy blanket over Lulu.
She felt safe under them.

Lulu hopped to a patch of soft grass.
She curled up into a little ball.
"Thank you," she whispered to Oliver.
The owl nodded and flew back to his tree.

Sofia listened with her eyes closed tight.
Her breath came in slow, sleepy puffs.
Mama's hand stayed on Sofia's head.
It was warm and gentle like sunshine.

"Lulu felt brave because she had a friend," Mama said softly. "Just like you have me." Sofia smiled without opening her eyes. Her heart felt full of love. The nightlight glowed its soft colors on the wall. It danced in little circles, making shapes. Sofia watched them float gently across the ceiling.

Mama's voice grew quieter and quieter.
She sang another lullaby about stars.
Her fingers brushed Sofia's hair softly.
Each touch was a tiny kiss of love.

Sofia's butterflies were sleepy now.
They curled up in her tummy like kittens.
The room felt safe and quiet around them.
Mama's hand held Sofia's gently all night long.

Mama tucked the blanket under Sofia's chin.
